Brethren Reviews

Eric Kay, Malta Lodge #17, Thermopolis, WY:
This is a very well written and extremely involved epic novel. The back-drop of the book is the building of an 11th century cathedral in England. It involves several "main" characters, including the master masons who work on the church, and their families. The descriptions of the characters and settings, especially the cathedral itself are very detailed. There is a little language and some "racey" parts but both add to the over-all flavor of the time and place of the story. It is a rich and detailed piece of fiction that would appeal to just about anybody interested in the time or place that the story takes place in.

This is one of the best books I have read. It is the epic tale of a stonemason's desire to build a cathedral. The book tells a long entwined story of all the people of the 12th century; from the richest nobel to the poorest beggar - and how their lives are connected and on a destiny driven course with the cathedral. This book deserves to be read slowly and carefully to receive the rich detail and numerous multi-threaded storylines. A gripping book you won't want to put down - you'll read it twice.
